Hi,
What are the ages of the kids? I've stayed at a hostel by myself and thought that that would be a good option for when I bring my kids. I have 4 kids ages 17, 15, 10, and 8. We will be visiting NY this Summer. If you go to hostelworld.com or just do a search on hostels in NY you will come up with a list of them. Some are as cheap as $25 per person per night.
When will you be visiting? I'd like to know how you make out and maybe get some feedback on some of your activities if that's ok.
Hope

A lot has to do with their interests. If they are avid golfers I would take them to East Lake Country Club and let them see where the late Bobby Jones honed his skills and walk the same grounds which is about 2 miles from where I live in Atlanta. For sheer beauty nothing is more breath taking than the mountains around Asheville North Carolina. If my guests were rock and roll fans,a must stop is Lubbock Texas home of the late Buddy Holly. Fot those into the arts,Cleveland Ohio would be my choice.Great over all culture and not a tourist trap. Finally in order for my guests to get a true taste of America, may I suggest visiting any small town in Texas? Honest people and one gets to see the best of The United States.

Our family of 4 stayed 2 years ago at The Belvedere. We got a great rate by calling and asking what the lowest rate was- internet, AAA etc. About $180-booked 5 months in advance. Squeezing 5 people might be tight in any NYC hotel room. (The Doubletree w/family suite might be another option) Nice location, easy to walk to the subway or a little farther to Times Square. Kids liked the Stardust Diner and Johns Pizzeria, Cafe Edison for breakfast-all economical for NYC and within walking distance. Everyone in the family needs great walking shoes! But beware- my daughter loved it so much she just moved and got a job there!
