If it means improved service, then I'm all for it.

I've been affected by an MTA takeover a few years ago when the express buses (ran by individual companies - Liberty Lines, New York Bus Service) were taken over (new company became "MTA Bus"). The old buses were replaced with brand new buses and the ride is much more comfortable.

So if you worked for the MTA and you were expecting an annual rise in pay, would you really be happy if management told you there would be no pay rise this year because passengers found a fare rise "outrageous and insensitive". Where do you think MTA workers pay comes from? It comes from fare revenue. Do you find a rise in the price of your grocery items "outrageous and insensitive"? If you think prices stay the same permanently you are not living in the real world. Your complaint is totally ridiculous.# You don't state your source for your information about "lots of commuters moving away". Where do they move to? Earth is currently the only known inhabited planet.

It will improve service on Long Island (particularly routes like the N4, N22, and N24. It will also save the MTA money. The only problem is that those low floor buses that everyone hates may appear on Long Island.
