Hi! Okay, I know this isn't NYC, but there is no general NY catagory... I was wondering if fall is a good time to visit Ausable Chasm in NY? Is there lots to see there? If we drive there for just the day, is that enough? Are there bike trails? Thanks!

I've been to Ausable Chasm, and, yes, it was a lot of fun, in a retro-tourist-attraction sort of way. I mean, it hasn't changed much at all since the 1950s or 60s, and that's a good thing, it's very charming, and I remember our trip there very fondly.

So, yes, go, and yes, one day is plenty, and, yes, fall is a good time 'cause the leaves may be changing and very colorful and it won't be too hot, but I don't think they have bike trails, sorry.

Good luck, and the link below is to their official website...

In 2007, Ausable Chasm was pleased to announce the opening of our much anticipated extension of our popular “Rim Walk”. Never before, throughout Ausable Chasm’s 139 years as a natural attraction, has any visitor been able to walk the entire rim and peer into the vast chasm below - adding nearly two miles of adventure! Our new vistas along the rim are nothing short of spectacular and provide ample bird-watching opportunities! View the Great Blue Heron as it swoops below you through the Chasm as well as Blue Jays, Robins, and maybe a Peregrine Falcon. You'll also have a chance to spot a Bald Eagle! View various birds and wildflowers at our new "Wildflower Meadow" and stroll past many of the scenic locations where Hollywood filmed at least five major films including the very popular suspense serial, "The Perils of Pauline" starring Pearl White. How will you return to the Welcome Center after you're done exploring?...hop aboard Miss Cassidy, our newly acquired trolley for a complimentary return trip. Just one more reason to visit Ausable Chasm this season!!!

Also new: Gemstone Mining! Pan for gemstones with our new sluice located in the Welcome Center. This is a blast for the young ones...or the young at heart!
