I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised at how safe and family friendly NYC has become. It has consistently been ranked at or near the top of the "safest big cities" in America list for some time. I think you and your family will truly enjoy the rich cultural diversity, the energy on the streets and the friendliness of the people. You are sure to find people who are ready and willing to help you with directions, suggestions etc. when you are in the City. When you come, take advantage unique opportunities like touring the United Nations and going to the Carousel in Central Park.

God will bless you for making a good decision to come to our wonderful city. Our city is so rich in culture and is the most populated city in America. Even the person talking to you is the son of Nigerian immigrants. New York is safe if have an open mind and are aware. You have to be safe. Don't display jewlery while on the trains in the evening. I don't know how NY is now cause I'm not in the country, but I can assure you that NY is safe, unless Bloomberg is still quarelling with the MTA/TWA!

Yes. The Times Square area (especially 42nd Street) was cleaned up years ago and now is home for things like the

Wax Museum and many more things aimed (properly) at

families. The science museums, planetarium, Empire

State Building, the Circle Line tour are all worthwhile

for families with gradeschool or older kids. You'll

enjoy it... bring money!

Yes, its very safe, even late at night. Not that it matters, but those areas around Times Square are very heavily patroled by the police and there are also many cameras being used by the police for surveilance there. In Manhattan, pretty much anywhere south of 112th street is fine.

Yes it is. As long as you are conscious and aware. Stay in places with a lot of people. The employees at your hotel should be able to give advice about where to go, or not go.

Definitely go to a show. I loved the Lion King.

Of course. New York is much safer now than it was in the 1970s and mid 1990s. You and your family will have a blast in New York.

You come and we'll rob you then eat your children for breakfast -- of course we are safe! Like all big cities, exercise caution when exploring unfamiliar territory and you'll be fine.

Hi Sonya!

I took my three teenage daughters last year at Christmas time and we had a blast. You wouldn't believe the security down there, though. There were police officers on the street corners everywhere, and there were security police inside all of the stores and shops. We felt very secure there. We actually found the people there to be friendly -- as much as could be expected during Christmas with the crowds and rushing around and all.

I love Times Square. It's beautiful and I am completely sure you will enjoy your stay.

I'm not from NYC. I'm actually a bit of a country girl, but I loved the city. Have a great time!
