One thing I really want to do is take a train to Grand Central Station in NY. I just wasn't sure if it was still running out of state. If so, how do I get tickets?

New York and Connecticut are the only two states you can get a train from Grand Central to.
Amtrak is the long distance railroad, but that's from Penn Station which is crosstown from Grand Central. LIRR and NJ Transit also serve Penn.

Grand Central station services trains that arrive from Connecticut. I will give you a schedule below.
Trains to Boston on Amtrak actually stop in Penn Station not Grand Central. Grand Central is a commuter station only for trains to the northern suburbs.

You can take the Connecticut line from Grand Central Station to either Stamford or New Haven, CT, then you have to purchase tickets from Amtrak to the North East corridor line to places like Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine.

The building is properly known as Grand Central Terminal and serves points north and northeast. Trains run from there into New England as well as upstate New York. Boston is a popular destination.

Tennessee is a hard situation to get to via instruct. From Grand important, you might take the MTA or cab to ny Penn Station (NYP). From there, Amtrak can take you to Chicago, the place you may trade for a instruct that goes by way of Western Tennessee (Dyersburg, Memphis).
