Nice before November Thanks Giving if you want to see colors people and a little sunshine, ant other tourist attractions and activities.

During: Lot of sales going on everywhere, goos opportunity for shoppers and tourists alike. Everyone ( well almost everyone) is in a festive mood, can get good bargains. Newyorkers are seen smiling during this time. Slightly colder weather.

After: Smiles are more or less gone as time to get back to work buit the festivities continue. The weather is much cooler and the tourist activities are there but not much fun.

Hope you find the above answers of some use.

Take care

I've spent a lot if time in NY and at different times of the year. As long as you don't mind some cold weather, my personal preference would be after Thanksgiving. New York turns into a magical place around Christmas. The store windows are beautiful, everything is in lights and it's very festive. Some of my favorite things are skating in Rockefeller Park by the magnificent tree and seeing The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. Plus you can always take in a play and do the other tourist attractions. Have fun!
