I was born in Mahattan and grew up in Long Island. Believe it or not.. I want to move to White Plains. It is cleaner up there. I find it easier to get to Manhattan from there as well. The taxes are higher in Long Island than most of Westchester County. I am unawawre of your age. But the School districts have a higher rating in Westchester and crime rate is lower. I live close to Queens. by JFK airport now. I would always suggest Westchester.

Well, I'm from Long Island and now I live in Westchester. Long Island is great cause you're close to the beaches. But the traffic sucks. Long Island is pretty big, and because of all the people, it takes a long time to go anywhere. Nassau is more crowded than Suffolk. The people are nicer in Westchester. Both are expensive places to live. It all really depends on where on long island, and where in Westchester. Northern westchester is nice than southern westchester.

Did my Christmas shopping at Westchester Mall. It was grand as I had never been there before. Very upscale...got great bargains. Saw some rough parts of Westchester, but also some very picturesque country roads and lakes. Airport is good.

Long Island has many areas that look like Norman Rockwell paintings. Very beautiful. Liked the airport and the ferry to Connecticut. However, I would choose the city with easiest access to NYC.

Don't know about colleges or schools in either town. I am assuming cost of living to be about even. Not sure what aspects you are considering. For me, any city which got me closer to NYC...I'd jump on it!

I have lived in both places. Both can be costly in terms of living, both are beautiful. If you work in the city Westchester is easier for commuting.

It is easier to get into NYC from Westchester than Long island. They both have good schools and a train to NYC.

I was born and raised in Westchester which has some very nice communities. Living in Westchester County, however, will get you some high taxes, and expensive living, one of main reasons we moved south after retirement. Many good opportunities for jobs, close enough to The Big Apple to visit, very good hospital and doctors, schools and libraries. Westchester encompasses both the larger cities and the smaller 'burbs which are charmingly delightful, like the one that the Clintons call home. There are many major highways that will get you into the city. On the other hand, Sorry, but I have no pertinent knowledge of Long Island.
